The wine
Head of the family property since the superb and memorable 2005 vintage, Nicolas Groffier here presents us with his Gevrey-Chambertin. It is no surprise that this has been made from Pinot Noir grapes that are carefully grown to showcase the very essence of their terroir. For this reason, the roots are encouraged to soak up the nutrients needed for them to flower from shallow brown limestone soils.
Aged in wood barrels for at least 18 months, the wine reveals a profile that is resolutely cut out for ageing. It has a ruby-red colour with violet reflections and its aromas are of red and black fruits, violet and sweet spices, such as cinnamon or clove with hints of humus and leather emerging over time. The well-presented tannins tend to melt away to produce a velvety texture. A lovely freshness enlivens the wine, making for a mouth-watering finish.
About the Producer Robert Groffier Père & Fils
Domaine Robert Groffier Père et Fils is a family vineyard much-loved by amateurs. The bike racer Jules Groffier founded this seven-hectare domain situated on the superb parcels of Chambolle Musigny, Bonnes Mares de Clos de Bèze. Robert Groffier, who now manages the domain with his son Serge, is considered one of the best winemakers in the Côte d'Or. Great care is taken over the vines and yields are rigorously controlled. This gives rise to wines that express a wonderful interpretation of Pinot Noir. Since 2005 Nicolas Groffier has joined the domain and manages vinification. The vines are mostly located in Chambolle-Musigny and include the famous plot Les Amoureuses. The wines of this domain show a great finesse, with a very silky texture, but also power and structure. They are perfect for a long ageing.
