Napa Valley Philip Togni Cabernet Sauvignon 1998
The wine
Cabernet Sauvignon is the first of the three wines produced by the domain, matured in French oak barrels (40% new wood) for around 20 months. It is a dense, concentrated wine with a rustic style enhanced by black berry aromas.
About the Producer Philip Togni
Vines on Philip Togni’s domaine were planted in 1981. Cabernet Sauvignon was the initial grape variety of choice, but the vineyard has now extended it range to include Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, in the style of Bordeaux wines intended for cellaring. The domaine belongs to the Togni family, and the head of the family, Philip was awarded the National Oenology Diploma when he was assistant cellar manager at Château Lascombes. Production is limited to approximately 25,000 bottles for export and for a few loyal American clients.
