About the Producer Château Rouget
Château Rouget is one of the oldest estates in Pomerol, with historical archives and records dating back to 1700. The superb Pomerol terroir has fulfilled its destiny as a prestigious red wine appellation, despite its relatively small size (800 hectares, making it one of the smallest appellations in the Gironde). The diverse mixture of gravel and smooth pebbles, brought by rivers from the Massif Central, is reflected in the character of the wines. Château Rouget has been owned by the Labruyère family since 1992. The vineyard and vinification has been supervised by enologist Michel Rolland since 1997. The château currently has 18 hectares of vines located on a gentle slope on the Pomeral plateau near the village (2/3 of the vines surround the château, and the domaine also includes a number of fine plots in other parts of the appellation). They have an average age of around 40 years and are planted on clay-gravel, sometimes clay-silica soil with a subsoil of iron-rich clay. Since 1992, the domaine has produced a second wine from young vines, known as Carillon de Rouget.
