Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence Les Bastides (Domaine) Cuvée Valéria Famille Salen 2001
The wine
Valéria is a blend of Cabernet-Sauvignon, Grenache and Mourvèdre; a typical cuvée from this appellation, rich in red fruit aromas and aromatic herbs. Generous, fleshy and well-structured, it rewards a few years in the cellar. It is the product of manual harvests, meticulous sorting of the grapes and traditional winemaking with a 2 year maturation in oak foudres.
About the Producer Les Bastides
Domaine Les Bastides, situated in the commune of Puy Sainte-Réparade just north of Aix-en-Provence, was acquired by a family of Provencal winemakers in 1967. Anne-Marie and Jean Salen produced their first vintage in 1976, having converted to organic viticulture in 1975. Today it is their daughter Carole who ably runs the domaine. Her winemaking eschews all artificial additions, ferments are spontaneous and their wines are matured slowly in large 50 hectolitre oak foudres.
