Saint-Joseph Vaussanne M Desestret 2001
The wine
This wine began to be sold as early as the 16th century, and was already a firm favourite with the Kings of France. In the 17th century, the Tournon Jesuits gave it its current name. Rolled out in a narrow 50 kilometre strip along the right bank of the Rhône, all of the vineyards in this area of the Côtes du Rhône were grouped together between 1956 and 1969, and placed under the appellation of Saint-Joseph. Made from 100% Syrah, Saint-Joseph wines are refined and elegant. Delicate and voluptuous, they develop subtle aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry, with hints of leather and liquorice as they age.
