Lot presentation

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier 2017

The wine

The Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Amoureuses from Domaine Mugnier comes from very old vines planted mainly in the middle of the 1950s. It has an exceptionally intense aroma, the very essence of great Burgundy wines! Seven years of cellaring are necessary to reveal the amplitude of its complex aromas. It has an excellent ageing potential, which can exceed 50 years for the great vintages.

About the Producer Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier

Founded in 1863 by Frédéric Mugnier, this beautiful Chambolle-Musigny domain at the beginning of the 20th century consisted of about 20 hectares of vineyard in Chambolle and Nuits-Saint-Georges. At the time the wines were sold under the Château de Chambolle-Musigny label, until AOC certification was created. The domain was family run until 1949. Between 1950 and 1978, the founder's great grandson, Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, decided to rent all of the vineyards to an important local wine merchant. He then took over the direct management of the Chambolle vineyards. It was his son Frédéric (the domain's manager since 1985), who got back the remaining part of the domain which was rented, Clos de La Maréchale at Nuits-Saints-Georges, in 2004. The Mugnier domain suddenly went from 4 to 14 hectares! The work at the Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier domain, both in the vines and in the cellar, is carried out with scrupulous care. His pure and delicate wines are seen, by many connoisseurs, as perfect examples of a great Pinot Noir. The Musigny Grand Cru and the Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Amoureuses are two most sought-after emblematic wines from the domain.
