Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Jean Grivot 2011
The wine
The Clos Vougeot holding was acquired by Gaston Grivot in 1919; it was then taken over by his son Jean, followed by his grandson Étienne. It is a wine of great concentration with a soft, supple palate.
About the Producer Jean Grivot
The Grivot family has been making wine in Burgundy for two centuries, particularly at Nuits Saint-Georges. Joseph Grivot moved to Vosne-Romanée at the end of the 19th century. His son, Gaston, Jean's father and Etienne's grandfather, sold a few vines in 1919 in order to buy a large parcel in Clos Vougeot. In 1984 Jean acquired 3,100 square meters of Richebourg. Étienne took over in 1987. The domain produces 18 crus from the 14.72 hectares, which are for the most part red wines with a high cellaring potential. The average age of the vines is over 40 years and the highly dense plantation produces low yields. Except in extreme cases, weedkiller is prohibited, the domain prefers to use integrated pest management, organic methods and compost. The wines are then aged for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels (a third of which are new). They are then bottled without fining or filtration. The domain only vinifies and bottles wines produced in their vineyards.
