A superb introduction to the wines of one of the best three domains in the appellation: rich, fruity, spicy and fleshy, but with remarkably refined tannins. A fantastic example of a Cahors wine.

Cahors Château du Cèdre Pascal et Jean-Marc Verhaeghe GC 2009
The wine
This cuvée is matured for 22 months in oak barrels (1/3 new barrels, 1/3 previously used for one wine, 1/3 used for 2 wines). The nose is fruity (red and black fruits), with notes of elderflower and spices. Well-balanced on the palate, its ripe tannins anticipate fruity flavours and a great potential for ageing. A lovely gastronomic wine, to be drunk with rich red meats.
About the Producer Château du Cèdre
The Château du Cèdre is one of the most renowned domaines in the Cahors appellation. The adventure began in 1958, when Charles Verhaeghe started to plant vines on a mixed-crop holding. His two sons, Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe then took the reins, Pascal taking care of the vinification and Jean-Marc of the vines. The 27-hectare vineyard boasts a magnificent terroir and is planted with 90% Malbec. The wines from this domaine are of excellent quality and consistency. The two brothers also recently took over some vines in Roussillon.
