Meursault Ballot Millot 2016
The wine
Meursault Village is produced from a chalky, clay-rich vineyard parcel of just under 2 hectares. The vines here are about 30 years old. The wine is élevaged for 18 months (25% new barrels) and then transferred to tanks for a further six months. It has delightful white flower and citrus aromas but also some empyreumatic aromas (toast) with buttery notes. On the palate, it has a very smooth texture, plenty of flavour, finesse and a respectable length. This wine goes particularly well with sauce-based poultry dishes.
About the Producer Ballot Millot
Domaine Ballot-Millot, located in Meursault, is a historic family farm of the Côte de Beaune, which has been in existence since the 17th century. Charles Ballot has been running the domaine since 2000 and is the fifteenth generation of his family at the head of the vineyard. The farm, which today extends over 12 hectares, has very fine plots of Meursault, Pommard and Volnay. For the last ten years or so, a much more natural and environmentally friendly approach has been taken for vinification: chemical weed-killers have been banned for soil tillage, and their treatment has become more sustainable and parsimonious. Charles Ballot produces very pure, classy and elegant wines. The whole range is very regular and of a high standard. Furthermore, this domaine maintains very reasonable prices!
