Vinos de Madrid DO Comando G Rozas Primer 2019

The wine

The Rozas premire cru cuvée is made from 50-year-old Grenache vines planted across several parcels near the town of Rozas de Puerto Real, around 900m in altitude. The harvest is carried out by hand following biodynamic principles. Similarly, the vinification passes with very little intervention, hence why only indigenous yeasts are used and whole bunches are placed in oak casks. The wine is matured for 12 months. Once finished, it has a luminous appearance. This is a cuvée with intense aromas of red fruit (strawberry, cherry), liquorice, floral and even mineral notes. On the palate, we rediscover those red fruits along with a dense, full-bodied texture. It is simply delicious. It can be kept until 2024 and should be served at 16°C. For food pairings, opt for stuffed courgette or a chicken fricassé.

About the Producer Daniel Gomez Jimenez-Landi

Daniel Landi and Fernando Garcia are childhood friends. They decided to crzeate Comando G in 2008 in the mountainous Sierra de Gredos region, not far from Madrid. The went on the search for vineyards planted in the most difficult, remote areas. Garnacha (Grenache) is their grape variety of choice, and their ambition is to make wines which rival the elegance and finesse of a Burgundian Pinot Noir or a Syrah from Hermitage. The 10-hectare domain is entirely biodynamic, and the vines aged 50 to 80 years, planted between 850 and 1,200 metres of altitude on soils of sand, granite, ardoise and quartz. The combination of well-draining soils, high altitude and a clement micro-climate guarantees a long growing season, wines which are not too high in alcohol and extremely refined.
