Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St Georges Henri Gouges 2001
The wine
Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges is a 3.5-hectare Domaine Henri Gouges monopole located just above La Perrière, the old stone quarry owned by the monks of Cîteaux. Sitting on pink limestone, the old vines produce a deep Nuits-Saint-Georges destined for years of aging.
About the Producer Henri Gouges
Founded by Henri Georges at the beginning of the 20th century on 14.50 ha of vines at Nuit Saint Georges, the domain is managed today by his two great-grandsons, Grégory and Antoine. For environmental reasons, some of the vineyards have grassed alleys. Yield selection and grape sorting, followed by 18 months of maturing in oak barrels, produce wines that are characteristic of their terroir. The domain has experienced a real stylistic revolution over recent years. It used to produce the most concentrated and tannic wines from this cold and late terroir. When young, the wines could be austere, but with a huge ageing potential of over 30 years. Keeping this immense potential, they are now more focused on finesse, which is a great development for this exceptional domain.
