Madère Blandy's Bual Vintage 1959
The wine
This Madeira owes its name to the local grape it is made from: Bual. This wine, which is a parcel-based selection, has been matured for about forty years, using the traditional Casteiro system, in American barrels following fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The Casteiro method consists of controlling the temperature of the wines by moving the casks from the upper floors of the winery to the cooler lower floors. Tasting reveals an intense mahogany visual aspect. Its nose is particularly exuberant, opening into very varied notes such as balsam, spices, hazelnut, candied fruits and vanilla. Its palate is every bit as indulgent as these fragrances suggest. Round, sweet and rich, it has extraordinary length in the mouth. A wine for sipping slowly and enjoying; it can easily be kept for ten years.
About the Producer Blandy's
Blandy's Madeira was established in 1807 by John Blandy, a quartermaster in the British navy responsible for protecting the island of Madeira from Napoleon’s army. His descendants, who still live on the island, set up the Madeira Wine Company with the Anglo-Portuguese Symington family. They were true trailblazers for the modernisation of the image of Madeira.
