Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roi Château de Chamirey 2016
The wine
Without a doubt, Clos du Roi is one of the finest premier crus in Mercurey. It produces dense and rich wines befitting of the top Burgundy appellations. The Devillard family owns 3.3 hectares of clay predominant land here.
About the Producer Château de Chamirey
Owned by the Devillard family since 1934 (Domaine des Perdrix, Domaine de la Ferté), the Château de Chamirey dates from the 18th century. Today, Amaury and Aurore Devillard, who work alongside their father Bertrand, manage the 37 hectare domaine together (about half of which is classified as premier cru). The vines are on average 35 years old. Les Cinq is a cuvée made by combining the best parts of the five red premier crus of the Château de Chamirey to create this exceptional wine. One of the peculiarities of the domaine is the fact they wait for optimal maturity to harvest. The grapes are harvested manually, then sorted and destemmed.
