The wine
A small enclave of limestone terroir, Patrimonio owes its quality to its microclimate, protected from the wind by the surrounding mountains, and its limestone scree soil mixed with clay. And then finally to the regional grape varieties, Nielluccio and Vermentino (also known as Malvoisie de Corse). The vines are planted on the hillsides, overlooking Saint Florent bay, at the base of Cap Corse. Very characteristic of the region, the reds have an excellent capacity to age. A deep red ruby colour, suggesting power and substance, the nose presents spicy, almost peppery aromas, accompanied by notes of blackcurrants and raspberries. Well-structured, they need three or four years to reveal their full character. The white wines are generally pale in colour but with very intense aromas of white flowers and exotic fruit. Soft and silky on the palate, they are best enjoyed in their youth. Finally, the rosés are relatively strongly coloured, due to the Nielluccio, and spicy, with notes of strawberries and cherries. Fresh and flavourful, they should be drunk while still young and fruity.
