Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Mongeard-Mugneret (Domaine) 1986
The wine
Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret comes from 50-year-old vines (on average) and has been aged for 80%, if not fully, in new barrels. It is round, full and elegant. It develops a remarkably rich and intense aromatic palette, characterised by notes of cherries, blackberries and blackcurrants, vanilla, spices and undergrowth and eventually fur.
About the Producer Mongeard-Mugneret
Today, the Mongeard-Mugneret domain manages, in true Burgundy tradition, a large number of vineyards which spread across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, encompassing the most prestigious "villages" (Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, Nuits Saint Georges and Savigny les Beaune). The heart of the domain remains at Vosne Romanée. Vincent Longeard, Jean's son, endeavours not only to look after and improve the family's heritage, but also to extend the domain's range of wines whenever an opportunity arises. Today, the domain counts roughly 30 hectares, spread over 33 appellations producing Burgundy whites and Aligotés, but it mainly produces red wines that come from the best vineyards of the Côte. The vineyard, situated at mid-slope, is south-east orientated and on clay-limestone soil.
