Château Larose Trintaudon Cru Bourgeois 2009
The wine
With over 150 years of history, Château Larose Trintaudon has succeeded in making large quantities of a remarkable quality. With 180 hectares of vines, it is one of the region’s largest vineyards all whilst being recognised as one of the best crus bourgeois. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vines flourish in gravel and clay-rich soil. The vinifications are traditional with maceration and fermentation lasting around 3 weeks. The ideal process for giving the wine its chewy quality. What follows is a maturation in oak casks for over a year, which confers a light woody character to the cuvées. The Merlot grapes bring roundness whilst the Cabernet Sauvignon structures the wine as well as providing aromatics and fruit. The colour is brilliant with superb intensity. On both the nose and the palate we find notes of wild plum and black pepper. The tannins are perfectly balanced with a freshness from the acidity and an unctuosity from the heat of the alcohol. You can count on 10 to 12 years of ageing potential. It is worth decanting the wine half an hour before enjoying it. It will pair wonderfully with a meat-based dish.
