Coteaux du Languedoc Pic Saint-Loup Domaine de L'Hortus Grande Cuvée Famille Orliac 2000
The wine
The red Grande Cuvée wine from Domaine de l'Hortus is a masterful blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache which has been destemmed, crushed and matured for 18 months in French oak casks. It has a deep ruby-red colour, releasing intense notes of dried fruit, licorice, violet and ripe black berries. It has a pleasant richness in the mouth, embodied by silky yet assertive tannins, persistent flavours and a velvety texture. This wine can be kept for at least ten years in the cellar.
About the Producer L'Hortus
The Orliac family, who have owned Domaine de l'Hortus for 25 years, are here represented by Marie-Thérèse and Jean, who have gradually built a name for themselves as one of the iconic domains in this appellation. They preside over 50 hectares of vines which benefit from a northeast facing, limestone terroir. Respectful of both Nature and Man, they are meticulous in their winegrowing and making.
