Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin (Domaine) 2014
The wine
Careful vineyard work has produced grapes of irreproachable quality, to the extent that selective picking is often unnecessary. The use of new oak is one of the domaine's distinguishing characteristics. The Les Clos grand cru, cultivated on a plot of 1.52 hectares (from the total of 20 hectares owned by the domaine) is one of the domaine's greatest successes. Solid and very closed-in, it is the grand cru equivalent of a Montée de Tonnerre. Very mineral, it bursts with an incomparable refinement which is always accompanied by vanilla notes. Generally drier and more structured than the others, it will benefit from ten years' cellaring to reach its peak.
About the Producer Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin
Domaine Jean-Paul and Benoît Droin is owned by one of the oldest families in Chablis, who have been working the vines for nearly five centuries. In 1547, Jehan Droin was already cultivating an enclosed vineyard. Today, the domaine is managed by Jean-Paul Droin and his son Benoît; it covers 25.5 hectares, including 5 grand crus and 8 premier crus. It has risen to the top of Chablis, offering precise, generous wines with a fine mineral persistence.
