Lot presentation

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie Pierre-Yves Colin Morey 2020

The wine

This Chassagne-Montrachet premier cru is a single-varietal Chardonnay grown responsibly in chalk and clay soil. The domain is dedicated to respecting its soils, letting grass grow in the vineyard to encourage competition and microbial life. Herbicides are banned, the vines are intentionally aerated, and green harvests take place. Thoroughly sorted, the grapes are vinified with the idea of letting the fruit tell the story of its terroir. Thus, the domain intervenes very little. To avoid marking the wine with oaky notes, it is matured in large containers, and the frequent stirring typical of the region’s methods is not practiced here. Maturation takes between 12 and 18 months.
We recommend leaving this wine for at least two years in the cellar, ideally savouring it within ten years. It will reveal its pale, golden hue as well as pure aromas of white fruit, white flowers, almond, butter, and a hint of minerality. This minerality also comes through in the texture, balanced nicely with the cuvée’s richness. We recommend pairing this wine with a delicate dish like fish or poultry.

About the Producer Pierre-Yves Colin Morey

Created in 2005, the Pierre-Yves Colin Morey domaine extends over 6 hectares on the Saint Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachetet appellations. After learning about his father's domaine (Marc Colin), Pierre-Yves decided to start his own domaine with his wife Caroline Morey. Mentioned by the specialised press as one of the "most gifted winemakers of his generation" (Revue du Vin de France), his wines, mostly from Chassagne, Meursault and Saint Aubin, must be discovered. Pierre-Yves Colin runs this small domaine with his wife Caroline, completing the production by buying grapes (one third of the volume). In the vineyards, responsible and sustainable farming prevails and in the winery, vinification needs little intervention. One of the strong points of this field is the élevage, which is mainly in demi-muids and is very subtle. This name, widely recognised by fans and professionals, is undeniably a safe bet!
