Lot presentation

Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Narbantons Mongeard-Mugneret (Domaine) 1999

The wine

Loyal to his principles, Vincent Mongeard grows the Pinot Noir that makes up this cuvée in a sustainable way. These vines are around 60 years old and they grow at 250 metres of altitude in chalk and marl-rich soil. The grapes are harvested by hand before being carefully sorted and destemmed. The vinification concludes with a maturation in oak casks (30-40% new wood). This Savigny-lès-Beaune premier cru Les Narbotons has an intense colour that gives off powerful notes of red fruit. On the palate, this is a concentrated cuvée marked by a present, tannic structure. You can enjoy this wine up to eight years from its vintage, ten if it’s an especially strong year. In order to appreciate all its finesse, we recommend serving it in large glasses to liberate the subtle notes of Pinot Noir. It can be served with simple dishes including white meat, sautéd vegetables and refined cheese.

About the Producer Mongeard-Mugneret

Today, the Mongeard-Mugneret domain manages, in true Burgundy tradition, a large number of vineyards which spread across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, encompassing the most prestigious "villages" (Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, Nuits Saint Georges and Savigny les Beaune). The heart of the domain remains at Vosne Romanée. Vincent Longeard, Jean's son, endeavours not only to look after and improve the family's heritage, but also to extend the domain's range of wines whenever an opportunity arises. Today, the domain counts roughly 30 hectares, spread over 33 appellations producing Burgundy whites and Aligotés, but it mainly produces red wines that come from the best vineyards of the Côte. The vineyard, situated at mid-slope, is south-east orientated and on clay-limestone soil.
