Lot presentation

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle Domaine Trapet 2014

The wine

Jean-Louis Trapet has the air of a truly serene man, someone who understands that humans are transitory and the earth remains. And since wine is nothing if not heritage and tradition, the mark of his great great grandfather Louis, who founded the domain in 1870, has lived on. Today, Jean-Louis takes care of the 15 hectares of vines, among the best-located in Gevrey, holding onto the treasure that is: three grands crus (Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin and Latricières-Chambertin), two premiers crus (Petite Chapelle and Clos Prieur) and Marsannay. Since 1995, the domain has been cultivated biodynamically. This involves avoiding disruptive methods both in the vineyard and the winery, respecting the balances of nature, and making time for careful observation. The idea is to accompany the vine so that it grows in its own way whilst being protected. A decisive step for the Trapet domain is in their maturation method: once the low-intervention vinifications are completed, the wines are taken to a cave where they evolve slowly over the course of the winter. “Our actions as wine producers are the material link between us and those who came before”. Jean-Louis Trapet makes wine with heart and soul.
He owns 6 hectares of vines with his wife near Riquewihr, in Alsace.

About the Producer Jean Trapet et fils

Jean-Louis Trapet is an articulate man, at peace in a world where "men are mere mortals". And since wine is all about sharing and transmission, his great-great-grandfather's legacy, founded in 1870, has been kept alive.
Today he takes care of 15 hectares of vineyard, among the best-located in Gevrey. He is merely the custodian of this treasure: three grands crus (Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin and Latricières-Chambertin), two premiers crus (Petite Chapelle and Clos Prieur), Marsannay and Bourgogne.
Since 1995 the entire domain uses biodynamics: free of any harsh practices in the vineyard as well as in the cellars, which respects the natural balance of the wine. This approach is above all based on observation: to protect the vines while monitoring their growth and development. Maturating is a decisive stage at the Trapet domain: once the vinification is finished (with minimum intervention), the wines are taken down to the cellar and put in barrels to mature slowly over the winter months at their own speed.
