Marquis de Mons 1985
The wine
Marquis de Mons is the second wine of the Margaux estate La Tour de Mons. A blend of Merlot (the dominant varietal), Cabernet-Sauvignon and Petit-Verdot grapes that are hand harvested and sorted rigorously. Parcel by parcel vinifications in thermoregulated stainless steel and an elevage of 12 months in oak barriques ensure that this wine is charming in its youth and after a decade or so in the cellar. The nose is marked by fruit that is also apparent on the palate. This is a generous and opulent wine with fie tannins. Pair with meats served with a sauce.
About the Producer Marquis de Mons
Château La Tour de Mons is one of the most beautiful properties in the Médoc. Some of its wines (the 1949 or 1953 for example) figure among Bordeaux's all-time greats. Its vines are particularly well-oriented on fine gravelly hilltops and produce a generous wine with the refined bouquet characteristic of the Margaux appellation. Numerous improvements have been made by the current owners. Having lavished a level of care on the property worthy of a cru classé, they have further improved the wine's reputation.
