About the Producer Château de La Rivière
Château de la Rivière, which takes its name from the adjoining Dordogne, has a rich history. Not only does the vineyard date back to medieval times, the Château was also embroiled in the numerous conflicts of the Hundred Years War. Charlemagne built a defensive fort here; the property was subsequently owned by the de l'Isle family, and in 1577 Gaston de l'Isle, the mayor of Bordeaux, built the château as it stands today.
James Grégoire took over the property in 2003, assisted by the oenologist Claude Gros. His intention is to continue making the wines that have earned Château La Rivière its excellent reputation.
