The wine
Once called Les Capitelles, this cuvée is a striking blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre. Despite its geographical origins, it is surprisingly fresh with superb tannins. This is the ideal wine to enjoy alongside a dish of tender meat and spring vegetables.
About the Producer Pierre Vaïsse
Pierre Vaïsse founded his estate in Aniane which sits in the Terrasses du Larzac appellation in 2007. He started with only two hectares of vines and would vinify the grapes in a 10m2 garage. He was lucky enough to be guided by Frédéric Pourtalié from Domaine Moncalmès and Laurent Vaillé from Grange des Pères, two of his friends who encouraged him to leave his position as a forestry technician and become a winemaker.
Today, he owns 13 hectares nestled on the arid, limestone Larzac terraces where he grows mainly Syrah and Mourvèdre. He uses six of these hectares to produce his wine and delivers the grapes from the rest to a cooperative. In the winery, ageing takes place over a long period of time (24 months for the reds). Pierre Vaïsse’s wines stand out thanks to their incredibly silky texture, aromas typical of the southern France, purity and intensity. Truly magnificent wines! A Terrasses du Larzac gem to be followed very closely.
