The wine
Powerful and well-balanced, the wines develop intense aromas of red fruit and have a good potential to age.
About the Producer Château Bernadotte
Château Bernadotte benefits from a fine terroir consisting of a gravel plateau on a clay subsoil, surrounded by prestigious crus classés. Furthermore, a large part of the vineyard is in a production area that used to be included in the Pauillac appellation because at that time it belonged to a cru classé in that appellation. Following a change of owner, this section of the vineyard was separated and became part of the Haut-Médoc AOC. Today there are 35 hectares of vines around the château, a wonderful restoration style residence that was built in 1860. Owned for a long time by the Swedish industrialist Curt Eklund, who exported most of the production to his native country, the property was purchased by May-Eliane de Lencquesaing in 1997, and then by the Rouzard family (Roderer champagne) in 2007, at the same time as Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. For the record, the name Bernadotte was given to this wine in honour of Marshal Bernadotte, who was made a Sovereign Prince by Napoleon I and elected by a large majority by the Swedish in 1818 to succeed their king Charles XIII, who had no heirs.
