Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Jean Chartron 1985
The wine
Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is a white wine produced in a limited area in the town of Puligny-Montrachet. The name dates back to the Middle Ages, when the lord of Puligny conveyed this parcel to his elder son, the "Knight". The vineyard, with an area of just over seven hectares, is located on top of Mount Ratchet, on a steep and very hard soil subject to erosion. The wines are very fine, and perfectly balance. Just lighter than Montrachet, they evolve more towards the mineral. Chevalier-Montrachet is richer and bolder than the Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet.
