Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières Joseph Drouhin 1976
The wine
Puligny-Montrachet has a reputation for producing one of the greatest dry white wines in the world. The Bethonian limestone gives Chardonnay a unique subtlety enhanced by a south-easterly orientation and slopes which facilitate drainage. The wines offer a set of very sophisticated aromas. In the mouth, their acidity is somewhat understated, expressing an intense mellowness and impressive persistence. According to legend, Les Folatières is the place where the will-o'-the-wisp and other spirits would come to meet. It is a Premier Cru vineyard, one of the most highly prized among lovers of great white wines. Joseph Drouhin has produced a wine with a beautiful sparkling visual aspect, with complex fragrances of cut hay, fresh almond and honey that develop with aging into aromas of dried fruit and spices. The length in the mouth is exceptional.
