Château Talbot 4ème Grand Cru Classé 2010
The wine
The wines, vinified with the precious advice of the legendary wine consultant Jacques Boissenot (who died in 2014) and Stéphane Derenoncourt, are consistently rich and extremely elegant. Their open character and silky tannins enable them to be enjoyed young, and also to be kept in the cellar for many years. With time, they develop a delicate, complex aromatic bouquet of cedar and Havana tobacco.
About the Producer Château Talbot
An 1855 Cru Classé, Château Talbot which has been owned by the Cordier family for over a century is considered the “brother” of Domaine Saint Andrieu and Château Sénéjac. Nancy Bignon Cordier and her husband Jean-Paul run the 110-hectare property today in the heart of the Saint-Julian appellation. In 2018, the estate obtained the French ‘Haute Valeur Environnementale’ (High Environmental Value) level 3 certification.
Advised by the oenologist Eric Boissenot, they aim to showcase the specialities of the terroir in their wines. Fine Günzian gravel sits atop a clay bedrock and the vines planted on this soil are mainly red but the château producers a lesser-known white wine. The grapes are harvested by hand before being heavily sorted and vinified in stainless steel and wooden vats. Ageing takes place in wooden barrique barrels. Regular tasting allows the team to continue adapting their techniques to suit the wine. The property releases wines that will please enthusiasts’ taste buds and are long lasting elixirs as Désiré Cordier wished them to be.
