Cahors La Marguerite Cosse-Maisonneuve (Domaine) 2021
The wine
The cuvée La Marguerite was created in 2011, produced with a massal selection of 100-year-old Malbecs grown on an excellent terroir. The nose is rather subtle, revealing aromas of red and black fruits, with peony and graphite notes. It’s especially on the palate, however, that this Cahors is outstanding: with a velvety texture that is absolutely unique of this region, and richness without being at all heavy, it is simply magical.
About the Producer Cosse-Maisonneuve
Matthieu Cosse – who also manages the well-known château La Coste in Provence – has been running the Cosse-Maisonneuve domaine with Catherine Maisonneuve since 1999. The 28-hectare vineyard is cultivated biodynamically (with Demeter certification). The vines are mostly made up of Malbec, with some Merlot and Tannat. In the winery, work is done with the same philosophy as in the vineyard: vinifications are as natural as possible (with indigenous yeasts, no fining or filtration, and long, well-controlled élevage). This domain, whose wines impress with their personality and fruitiness, is now a member of the Cahors appellation elite.
