Autriche Kracher Eiswein Cuvée 2012
The wine
The property produces an Eiswein (literally ice wine) which is made from grapes left on the vine until they freeze. The berries are harvested during winter nights and pressed along with the frozen water around them. This produces a very concentrated must with sugar levels similar to those found in grapes affected by noble rot and used to produce Beerenauslese (BA). After vinification (fermentation is slow because of the high sugar levels), the wine has very pure, fruity and concentrated aromas and is extremely acidic.
About the Producer Kracher
The Kracher domaine has earned an international reputation for the quality and sophistication of its sweet wines and has become the standard bearer for Austrian vineyards. Three generations of winegrowers have worked since 1928 to produce consistently excellent sweet wines. It is located close to Neusiedl lake where the climate is propitious to the formation of noble rot. There is a wide range of wines and different vinifications are offered, even for wines of similar sweetness. The wines very clearly reflect the know-how handed down from one generation to the next with an enduring love of wine. They are all perfectly balanced, rich and wonderfully aromatic.
