Lot presentation

Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur Harmand-Geoffroy (Domaine) 1989

The wine

Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy crafts a Gevrey-Chambertin by the rule book. This estate has 10 hectares of vines with a majority of grands and premiers crus, where noble varietals are cultivated following sustainable methods. The Pinot noir making up this cuvée benefits from chalk-rich pebbly soil in a vineyard that faces east.
On the domain, harvests are carried out by hand before a traditional vinification. The wine is matured in oak casks with only a small amount of new wood, thus avoiding any heavy oakiness conferred to the fragile grape.
We recommend ageing this wine for ten, even fifteen, years in order to appreciate the distinction and density it develops. Its evolved bouquet carries flavourful notes typical of Pinot noir (red and black fruit, violet, white pepper) and of its age (gentle spices, musk, leather). Its dense texture is structured by well-integrated tannins.
We recommend opening this wine an hour before serving with a characterful meat dish or squash soup.

About the Producer Harmand-Geoffroy

Gérard Harmand now runs the Harmand-Geoffroy family domaine, whose creation dates back to the 19th century. The vineyard covers a little less than 10 hectares in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, with a majority of premier crus and a grand cru, the Mazis-Chambertin. The vines are relatively old (about fifty years) and the cultivation is conducted in a sustainable manner. The quality of the wines has progressed well in recent years, they are harmonious, with body and intense fruity aromas.
