Château Larmande Grand Cru Classé 2003
The wine
Located in Soutard, Saint-Emilion, these 20 hectares of vines thrive in the clay-chalk soil. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon is vinified by the talented Véronique Corporandy, who is also the wine maker at Château Soutard. The extraction process is not prolonged, just enough to obtain a good structure and firm tannins. 60% of the maturation is in new barrels, and 40% in barrels already used for one or more wines. Full-bodied, complex, and deliciously fruity, this wine has an ageing potential of 15 years. In terms of food pairings, this cuvée is perfect for serving alongside a braised shoulder of lamb or wild boar.
About the Producer Château Larmande
Château Larmande is one of the oldest vineyards in Saint Emilion and lies in the north of the appellation. The soil is particularly varied, consisting of clay, sand, iron residues and iron-rich clay. The wines' quality has been largely consistent for many years. Since 1970, when the winery was renovated, the wines have enjoyed a particularly good reputation.
