Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Bousse d'Or La Pousse d'Or (Domaine de) 1988
The wine
This two-hectare vineyard is located below the Volnay village hall. A premier cru classé, it is enclosed by a wall and is a monopole of the domaine. Indeed, this is the very fabulous vineyard that gave the domaine its name. The subsoil is composed of calcareous Argovian marl. Elevage is carried out on the lees in oak barrels (30% new wood) for 15 months. The result is a Volnay that represents the zenith of the appellation. A dense, complete palate with great complexity. After a few years of aging, it reveals its incomparable tannic texture.
About the Producer Domaine de la Pousse d'Or
The famous historical domaine of Volnay, the Pousse d'Or has an exceptional vineyard with many premier and grand crus. Previously owned by Gérard Potel, it is now in the hands of Patrick Landanger. The vineyard tends to come close to organic farming and the winemaking process is carried out smoothly, in the most natural way possible and élevage is understated (with a low proportion of new casks). The quality of this work means they can produce wines with remarkable aromatic expression and excellent aging potential.
