Chianti Classico DOCG Ruffino Ducale Riserva Oro 1957
The wine
The Chianti Classico designation area is located in Tuscany, bordered to the north by Florence and to the south by Sienna. It was awarded its DOCG (the equivalent of the French AOC) in 1932 and is one of Italy's oldest wine-producing regions. The name "Classico" refers to its ancient past and origins. The climate here is continental (a mountain range borders the area to the east) and the vineyards are also located high up. These features ensure Chianti Classico wines enjoy a distinctive character. Chianti Classico reds are made from a minimum of 80% Sangiovese grapes. Other authorised grape varieties under the designation are the native varieties of Canaiolo and Colorino as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Rich ruby red in colour, these wines are characterised by notes of violet and red berries. Harmonious and elegant, Chianti Classico wines are without a doubt exceptionally well-suited to ageing.
