Lot presentation

Languedoc Les Vignes oubliées Jean-Baptiste Granier 2020

The wine

This Languedoc domain has decided to honour the Cinsault grape, a varietal that doesn’t always get much press, and yet truly thrives in this region. Here it is enriched by the inclusion of Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan. All of these vines are grown organically in a terroir rich in sandstone and schist. This means that no herbicides or synthetic products are used, debudding is practised, and the harvests are undertaken by hand.
In the winery, there is one goal: to preserve the freshness and the fruit of the grape. These are carefully sorted before vinification and partly destemmed before spending two to three weeks in vats. The wine is matured in demi-muids.
In the glass this is a ruby-red wine with an intense aromatic bouquet of red and black fruit, gentles spices, liquorice, and earthy notes.
We recommend decanting this cuvée before serving it at an ambient temperature. You can enjoy it with flavourful dishes like a meat in sauce, a vegetable gratin, or grilled pork ribs.

About the Producer Les Vignes Oubliées

Located in the Saint Privat municipality, at the southern edge of the Larzac plateau, this domain was bought by Olivier Jullien and Jean-Baptiste Granier in 2008 and converted to organic agriculture. The reason they chose this name for their domain was that these vines were almost left to disappear because they didn't correspond to the agriculture desired by the cooperative cellars who bought the grapes. For the winemaker, Les vignes oubliées is a generous, balanced wine made for sharing. “This is the most important thing, because wine is made for drinking and drinking again…”
