Château la Clotte 1990
The wine
Built against the side of the limestone cliff, the little family house adjoins an ancient cave dwelling that conceals a labyrinth of tunnels, and provides the perfect environment for ageing the wines. The neo-Gothic turret that looks down over the vines gives Château La Clotte a poetic atmosphere.
The vineyard is meticulously cared for throughout the year according to environmentally friendly principles. The vinification methods combine tradition and daring innovations, resulting in lively, fruity, deep wines. They are at their best five to ten years after bottling.
Medium-bodied, with a supple, silky texture, they develop jammy notes of ripe fruit. The best vintages are full-bodied and powerful, with a pleasant hint of liquorice on the finish.
About the Producer Château la Clotte
Château La Clotte has a small four hectare vineyard at the base of the cliffs close to the centre of Saint Emilion, near Ausone's vineyard. In a small, almost hidden valley, three sisters, Nelly Moulierac, Dominique Tord and Odile Plantade have written a new chapter in the story that was begun by their illustrious great grandfather, Sylvain Chailleau, who acquired the property in 1912 and devoted all his energy to it before passing it on to his son.
