Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Laurent Roumier 2018

The wine

The Clos de Vougeot cultivated by Laurent Roumier is admirably placed in the famous grand cru terroir. More structured and tannic than Chambolle, Clos Vougeot owes its strength to its deeper and richer soils. Laurent Roumier's vines from this cuvée are situated on the upper part of the Clos, on just over half a hectare. A longer ageing of 18 months in new barrels for half, improves the character of this well-balanced wine.

About the Producer Laurent Roumier

Laurent Roumier, the cousin of Christophe (from the George Roumier domain) has long been associated with his brother. Since 1991 he has managed a four hectare-domain of rented vineyards, which he increased to seven hectares in 2005. These vineyards spread over the Bourgogne, Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny, Clos Vougeot and Bonnes-Mares appellations. Laurent Roumier traditionally cultivates and vinifies using the old methods of treading and pumping over, without a pre-fermentation "cold soak", followed by a 15 to 18 month maturation in oak casks.
A man of few words, Laurent is fairly secretive when it comes to his "savoir-faire". However, his mastery is highly regarded amongst enlightened connoisseurs.
