Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée Château de la Maltroye 2003
The wine
The fruit of sustainable growing, this wine was vinified in stainless steel vats, lightly pressed, and fermented in a heat-controlled environment in order to preserve the delicate character of the Chardonnay. The remaining fermentation in barrels, stirring, and a year-long maturation give this wine a lovely texture and formidable complexity. You can keep this bottle for several years in the cellar before pairing it with poultry or fish in a creamy sauce.
About the Producer Château de la Maltroye
Owned since 1940 by the Cournut family, Château de la Maltroye, located in Chassagne-Montrachet, has 13 hectares of vineyards, 70% of which are premier cru and two hectares are in Santenay. In the cellar, the whites are fermented in barrels with lees stirring, their élevage lasting 12 months. The reds undergo cold pre-fermentation and their barrel élevage lasts between 14 and 18 months. The domaine is managed by Jean-Pierre Cornut, a former aeronautical engineer. The wines are high-quality, fresh and fruity, with great potential.
