Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Ramonet (Domaine) 1990
The wine
The white wines of Chassagne-Montrachet have become predominant, now the spearheading the vineyard’s produce, when just 25 years ago they had to count on their red counterparts. In fact, of the 315 hectares of vines in this appellation, reds represent close to half of production compared to 60% and even 70% at the beginning of the 80s. But of the best terroirs for white wine, Chassagne-Montrachet proves to be magnificent: the premier and grand crus figure assuredly among the best Burgundy wines like the Ramonet Premier Cru ‘Les Morgeots’ which is seen in the top 25 best Burgundian terroirs. It brings substance, strength and finesse into harmony, and it amply rewards aging of at least 10 years to reveal the aromatic complexity of the Chardonnay. The length of its finish is also difficult to challenge.
About the Producer Ramonet
Jean-Claude and Noël safeguard the 17-hectare property created bit by bit by their grandfather Pierre Ramonet in the 1920s, a Burgundian figure. Noël (in the cellar) and Jean-Claude (in the vineyard) took over the domain in 1984. They are the third generation and want to get the best out of the terroir. It is one of the most renowned domain of the appellation for both quality and finesse of its wines.
