Sancerre Comte Lafond 2016
The wine
This is one of the Loire's most famous appellations, located on the left bank of the river in a region that combines hilly land and the Val de Loire pit. With its roots in the hillside slopes, the vineyard (around 2,700 hectares) is dedicated to Sauvignon (80%) and Pinot Noir. Better known for its whites, its reds have recently been gaining in popularity. Rosés made from Pinot Noir are also available. Three types of soil make up the Sancerre region: "white soil" (clay-limestone Kimmeridgian soil) located in the western hills, "gravel soil", stony and limestone soil, and finally the clay-siliceous soil to the east. The vines are planted at between 200 and 300 metres of altitude. They enjoy a temperate climate.
Sancerre whites are very similar to Pouilly Fumé: fine, lively wines that combine aromas of a more vegetable character: box tree, broom, blackcurrant leaf, developing into floral, often sweet notes: acacia, jasmine and citrus fruit aromas. A pure opening melts away into a rich, rounded effect on the palate. Subtle wines that always display a certain freshness.
