Corton Grand Cru Château Corton Grancey Louis Latour 1983
The wine
Château Corton Grancey GC from the Louis Latour House is one of the great Burgundy wines that should be tasted at least once. The domain was bought back by the Latour House in 1891 from the Grancey family who owned the Château de Corton at the time. The vineyard covers four climats situated in the Grand Cru Corton: les Bressandes, les Perrières, les Grèves and les Clos du Roi. The harvest is concentrated around the best vines in the domain, whose average age is over 40 years. The proportion of each parcel used in the blend varies according to the vintage. This wine is only produced when the Pinot Noir is perfect: in some years, when the quality is considered insufficient, the wine is downgraded. Château-Corton-Grancey is a highly refined wine with a complex nose of glacé cherries and notes of leather and truffle. Concentrated flavours of small fruits and plums merge together with the characteristic vanilla flavour from the barrel. This strong and structured wine, with a good length on the palate deserves to be aged for a good few years. Perfectly structured yet fairly strong, the Château Corton Grancey has a log ageing potential and deserves a few years of patience in the cellar before drinking.
About the Producer Louis Latour
A family business since its creation in 1797, Louis Latour is one of the most recognised traders/ famers in Burgundy. It has remained a family enterprise for over two centuries and is thus part of the closed circle of the Henokiens. It is now Florent Latour, representative of the 11th generation who is at its head since the disappearance of his brother Louis Fabrice. The Louis Latour house gradually formed a vast domaine, extending from Chambertin to Chevalier-Montrachet: 48 hectares, 28 in grand crus. It cultivates Pinot Noir for its reds and Chardonnay for its whites. Over the last thirty years, the company has also spread in the Ardèche, in the Var and in the Pierres Dorées region, also producing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Maison is committed to a more ecologically friendly and respectful terroir by adopting responsible and sustainable agriculture (limitation of pesticides, compost and ploughing of certain parcels).
