Information
Markus Molitor took over his father's domaine in Wehlen in the heart of the Moselle region in 1984, at the age of 20, pursuing the work carried out by eight generations of his family. The vineyard spans steep slopes with gradients of up to 80%, cultivated entirely by hand, and includes some vines which are over a hundred years old. It is mostly planted with Riesling, but there is also some Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. The grapes are picked at peak maturity and fermentation is achieved without the addition of yeasts, using only those naturally present in the grapes. Markus Molitor produces a wide range of sec, demi-sec and sweet wines which are all of very high quality, in a unique style that allows the minerality of the terroir to express itself fully.
An iconic vineyard in the Moselle region of Germany, Markus Molitor’s estate enjoys worldwide recognition, acclaimed by leading experts. Steep slopes and slate soils craft wines with a distinctive character, defining the signature of the estate’s cuvées. In the vineyard, the grapes are entirely hand-picked at peak ripeness. The carefully sorted and selected grapes undergo precise and uncompromising vinification. The grapes first macerate for a several hours before undergoing fermentation triggered by native yeasts. Lastly, the wine is matured on lees in barrels before bottling.
An intense and bright yellow colour reveals an expressive bouquet, bursting with fresh spice aromas complemented by delicate hints of smoke. The firm and precise palate reveals a wine of great finesse with fruity aromas, leading to a fresh and persistent finish.
