Information
Having acquired a real reputation with the wines from his trade, since 2006, with the help of his son, Dominique Laurent has also created a small producer-farming establishment from vineyards leased to a winemaker of Vosne-Romanée. He does not deal with vinification but élevage and bottling. Nevertheless, he supervises vinification. The father and son like to work grape musts that have not been destemmed and to mature their wines without sulphur. They use new barrels, the signature of the maison. Dominique Laurent's entire range of wines is characterised by a high degree of purity and to be accessible to all ages. This recipe has proved its worth to fans all over the world.
Mazis Chambertin extends along an east-facing hillside on a thin terroir consisting of just a few inches of brown soil sitting on a limestone bedrock. This is where majestic, opulent, and elegant wines come to life. Dominique Laurent is a high-calibre wine merchant who sources grapes from old vines, vinifies them with the utmost care, and ages the wines on their lees in oak barrels from the Tronçais forest for a lengthy period of time, adding very little sulphur. This haute couture ageing results in a sumptuously rich, intense wine with black cherry and raspberry jam aromas, combined with animal and undergrowth nuances. A hint of minerality rounds out the mix, producing an incredibly precise wine with a never-ending finish. A wine designed to be kept for a long time, best opened after at least ten years of cellaring, which will enhance a coq au vin or a prime rib.
