About the producer

The legendary Leroy house in Auxey-Duresses was created by François Leroy in 1868. At the beginning of the following century, Henri Leroy contributed greatly to making these wines famous, and his daughter, Lalou Bize-Leroy, took over in 1971. Moreover, this icon of Burgundy made itself renowned by buying the Domaine Charles Noëllat to create its own domain. The Leroy family is also co-owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti with the Villaine family. The wines of the Leroy house have an exemplary quality. No doubt this is the greatest Burgundy wine. The grapes are meticulously selected; they must come from at least responsibly cultivated vines. The winemaking and maturing are carried out with as much care as in the domain that produces exceptional wines.

About the wine

This Grand Cru, about five hectares in size, looks towards the East and is made up of two parts. The first part is high up and sits in the sunshine. Its marl-limestone soil produces well-rounded, intense, sensual but always dynamic Pinot Noirs. The second is lower, less mature, with a denser clay soil delivering more direct, alluring wines with greater tannins. This is one of the most early-ripening Grand Crus in Chambertin, but it is also one of the most alluring ones. Every so often, Maison Leroy produces the best examples of Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru, producing consistent quality each time. Anyone would be able to identity the amazing aromas of Morello cherry, ripe fruits, dried flowers and notes from the sea which give the wine a salty and long finish, achieving perfection. The tannins add a beautiful delicacy and the first drop of wine to reach your palate is lively, just like the highest part of this climat.
This is a marvellous wine produced by a big name in Burgundy wine with a reputation for its high standards of quality and legendary for the longevity of its wines and the talent of its owner, the famous Madame Lalou-Bize Leroy, who promised her father in 1955 that she would make a name for herself. Promise made, promise kept; and her name will be known forever more.
