This red cuvée comes from Domaine Les Vins du Cabanon and the talented producer Alain Catex. The vineyard covers a single-hectare plain in Trouillas, south of Perpignan, on a terroir rich in clay and sand. The centenary vines give extremely limited yields, requiring significant work by hand.
The grapes are vinified with little intervention, as naturally as possible. Semi-carbonic maceration is followed by fermentation, the latter using only wild yeasts. This particular cuvée is a blend of Syrah and Merlot. There is no filtering or fining, and no sulphur is added.
In the glass, this cuvée has an expressive nose that draws heavily on red fruits. It is crisp on the palate, pure and fresh with lovely fruit. Overall, a pleasant and easy-drinking wine.
