Information
Daniel Landi and Fernando Garcia are childhood friends. They decided to crzeate Comando G in 2008 in the mountainous Sierra de Gredos region, not far from Madrid. The went on the search for vineyards planted in the most difficult, remote areas. Garnacha (Grenache) is their grape variety of choice, and their ambition is to make wines which rival the elegance and finesse of a Burgundian Pinot Noir or a Syrah from Hermitage. The 10-hectare domain is entirely biodynamic, and the vines aged 50 to 80 years, planted between 850 and 1,200 metres of altitude on soils of sand, granite, ardoise and quartz. The combination of well-draining soils, high altitude and a clement micro-climate guarantees a long growing season, wines which are not too high in alcohol and extremely refined.
Domain Comando G is proudly fond of the Garnacha grape, and the Mujer Cañon cuvée is a single-varietal Grenache wine made using very old vines. Around 60 years old, they grow in the Sierra de Gredos appellation, enjoying the perfect balance of humidity and freshness. The vines are cultivated biodynamically and, after being harvested by hand, the bunches are destemmed. With fresh results in mind, the grapes undergo a cold maceration and ferment at a controlled temperature. The wine is then matured for a year in large containers of 500-600 litres that leave very little oakiness. The domain then leaves the wine in their cellar for 8 months once bottled before selling the final product.
In the glass we find a characterful wine structured by elegant tannins. Note that it is produced in limited quantities!
