Information
Situated at the north Italian border, at the heart of the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia appellation, Miani benefits from its northern position at the foot of the Alps; the climate here is temperate and continental, refreshed by the cool air of the mountains. Led masterfully by Enzo Pontoni, this domain has forged a reputation through the producer's true love for his plants and other raw materials. The work carried out in the vines is meticulous in order to preserve the terroir and let it express itself through these intense resulting wines. In the same vein, work in the cellar leaves nothing to chance, letting the dynamic aspects of nature come through with precise proceedings. These wines are sought for their maturity, their refinement, and their strong personality. The whites and reds alike can be enjoyed young or after a bit of ageing, served at the table with a regional dish, for example.
The Merlot used to make this cuvée comes from a 4-hectare vineyard at the heart of the DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli. This is an area reputed for its top-class red wines, a reputation justly honoured by this bottle. The vines benefit from a marl-rich soil 120 metres above sea level. Around 40 years old, they are worked on by hand and shaped following the Guyot method. In the cellar, this wine ferments in oak casks and stainless steel vats. It matures for 30 to 33 months in French barrels. In the glass it has a ruby red colour with hints of garnet. Its aromatic bouquet reveals red fruits, black fruits, cinnamon, cacao, tobacco and pepper. Good oxygenation allows for even more nuanced balsamic and even minty touches. It has good balance on the palate with its silky tannins and pleasant freshness.
