Information
Located in Sury-en-Vaux, to the north of the Sancerre appellation, domain Claude Riffault spans 15.3 hectares, covering 10 lieux-dits. The vineyard is placed with a majority of Sauvignon Blanc (10.5 hectares), completed by 3 hectares of Pinot Noir. Stéphane Riffault obtained organic certification in 2016. Yields are limited by debudding and cordoning. Vinifications are traditional and élevage is precise. The domain has greatly improved these past years, and their cuvées are becoming more and more sought after.
Stéphane Riffault, the son of Claude Riffault, decided to create this single parcel cuvée in 2018 and named it Monoparcelle 538. The vine used to create this aromatic treasure is 47 years old and takes up 0.44 hectares of land. The soil in question is made up of kimmeridgian marl and is exposed to the south at an altitude of 260 metres. After picking the grapes by hand and sorting them meticulously, they are pressed in a pneumatic press before a static clarification. Maturation takes around 15 months and takes place in wooden containers with instances of stirring if necessary. The wine gives off mineral and complex aromas alongside citrus and vegetal notes.
