Information
Founded in Beaune in 1880, the Joseph Drouhin house is now run by the four children of Robert Drouhin. Present throughout Burgundy, but also in the United States in Oregon, its reputation is worldwide. It also has a domain of its own, including a vineyard of 72 hectares.
Burgundy domain Joseph Drouhin here proposes a Meursault premier cru made from meticulously-grown Chardonnay. The density of the plants has been carefully thought out to let the vines draw all the resources they need and get the best from the terroir. Yields are intentionally low (around 45 hl/ha) so the grapes can express the nuances of the parcel.
In the winery, pressing is very slow to respect the purity and delicate nature of the Chardonnay. The wine is then matured for a year in oak casks of up to 25% new wood.
In the glass, this s a pale yellow wine with an elegant aromatic bouquet of white fruit (apple, pear, peach), fresh almond, delicate spices, patisserie, and butter. These notes introduce a round palate that lingers on notes of almond paste and warm brioche.
This is a cuvée that will benefit from a few years in the cellar before being served with a rich dish like poultry in creamy sauce or a parmesan risotto.
