Information
Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, the Domaine Morey-Coffinet is a 8.5 hectare vineyard resulting from joining the domaines of Marc Morey and Fernand Coffinet. Most of the vineyards are located in Chassagne-Montrachet, including the famous premier crus la Romanée, Remilly and les Caillerets, but the domaine also has plots in Puligny-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. The vines are grown organically (under certification) and the aging is done in oak barrels which can be up to 60% new depending on the vintages and cuvées.
This cuvée comes from an exceptional, Chassagne-Montrachet premier cru. The Chardonnay grown there enjoys an ideal position. The domain has 600 square metres of vines exposed to the south in clay- and chalk-rich soils. Organic and biodynamic growing are practised. Once in the winery, the domain opts for both vinification and maturation in oak casks, around 50% of which is new wood.
Made to be aged, this wine has a complex and elegant bouquet. We find notes of white and yellow flowers, citrus zest, candied fruit, almond, caramel, poached pear, and aromatic herbs. Its golden yellow hue introduces a complex texture with a richness to it. There is a certain tautness that livens the cuvée as it lingers on the palate, and its salty touch inspires pairings with seafood. We recommend a dish like noble fish, scallops, or lobster.
